New Mexico Economic Outlook 2016

Attended the

It was a sobering presentation by Wells Fargo Senior Economist Dr. Eugenio Aleman.  Aleman was once again the keynote speaker for the annual New Mexico Economic Outlook breakfast presented by Albuquerque Business First.  There's just no getting around the fact that NM has not done well economically over the last few years. And with oil and gas prices down, high unemployment and historic out-migration from the state, challenges remain.

A group of local business leaders also provided insights.  Scott Ashcraft of the New Mexico Homebuilders Association, Jessica Eaves Mathews of Hautepreneurs, Kathy Ulibarri of CNM and John Salazar of the Rodey Law Firm all acknowledged the challenges, but expressed optimism that the state will recover.

There was one thing everyone seemed to agree on.  As @ABQBizFirst tweeted, NM needs to "promote ourselves as a great place to live and visit."
